NIKE Performance Camp
29th July 2006
Junior members from Hartlepool HEAT were selected to take part in a unique one-day basketball camp sponsored by Nike in Newcastle. Coach Fisher and Robinson were also selected to Coach for the day. The camp was one of three camps being held around the Country with the others in London and Birmingham.
180 people attended the camp between the ages of 11-18 with 10 players reppin’ The HEAT.
The camp was led by Birmingham’s very own Paul ‘Dougie’ Douglas who among other things has Coached and played at the highest level in this country and the talent doesn’t stop there he was assisted by Tony Garbelotto (Head Coach of BBL team London United), Billy Spragg (Assistant Coach of Newcastle Eagles) as well as two ex BBL players, some national league coaches and of course our very own Coach Fisher and Robinson.
The idea of the camp was to select two young players who would get the chance to go to London and take part in another camp and the opportunity meet The MAN himself M.J (That’s Michael Jordan).
After one of his famous warm ups, Coach ‘Dougie’ sent the players to their first station where they would work hard for the next 20 minutes before moving onto the next station. Another 11 stations awaited the young players. The stations included Passing, Dribbling, Shooting, Fitness, Team awareness, Rebounding and Defence, just to name a few!
With the stations out of the way it was time for some Shoot-outs and 5v5 games.
At the end of the day all the young players were brought together for a chat with Newcastle Eagles Andrew (Dru) Sullivan. The children listened to Dru as he explained just how hard the real world of basketball can be and openly asked him some questions.
180 young people took part in the camp and although no one from HEAT managed to bag the trip to see M.J we did manage to pick up four out of a possible 8 awards which just goes to show the quality of our young stars.

The camp was an excellent day for all people involved especially the 10 players from HEAT who proved they could mix it with the best in the region.
