Rotherham Hawks 43 – Hartlepool HEAT 42
Hartlepool HEAT U13s lost a very winnable game to Hawks side that just wanted it more.
HEAT were cruising by half time and made plenty use of the cushion, however a resurgent Hawks in the second half pushed HEAT right until the buzzer where the game was lost.
The game started very slowly but excellent baskets by Ryan Mckenzie and Macauley Novak proved too much for Rotherham. Once HEAT captain Jonny Davies got going on his way to 20 points personal it looked like there was no stopping the HEAT.
In the second quarter HEAT replaced Novak and Mckenzie as they were treading finely on 4 fouls.
During this period Rotherham stole a couple of baskets to get back in to the game leaving everything to play for in the second half.
In the third quarter only Davies for HEAT could find the basket as he netted 6-points but the Hawks were slowly clawing their way back and at the end of the third they only trailed by 2-points.
A strong opening two minutes from Rotherham gave them the lead for the first time in the game and they never lost is. HEAT rallied in the last minute through Jonny Davies with 6-points straight but it was not enough as the buzzer went and HEAT had to settle from 1 win from 2.
Scorers: Jonny Davies 20, Macauley Novak 12,
After a superb win against Leeds and a marginal loss to Rotherham the team returned to Hartlepool thinking only what if, as after being more that 12-points up in the game they let Rotherham back in for them to win only just!
By 1 single point!
However with results going their way the Hartlepool side now sit on top of their division on point’s difference.
The HEAT can only build on this momentum and with Rotherham and Barnsley making the trip to Hartlepool today (Saturday 21st) (2:30pm tip off at The Headland Sports hall) there’s everything chance the team can go 4 points clear should they walk off the floor with two wins.
