Hartlepool HEAT Ladies 51 vs Nunthorpe Bruins 69
HEAT started off very slow in the opening quarter after a fairly speedy start from the Bruins. Nunthorpe took an early lead and half way through the first quarter were 0-10 to the good. But this made HEAT work twice as hard and soon the HEAT started getting to the way they are used to playing and soon started putting there shots away. At the end of the first quarter the score was 8-16.
In the 2nd quarter HEAT continued piling on the pressure and had some great fast break moves scored thanks to great passes from Pam Fisher and shots by Trina Fenny. There was some great defensive work from Stacey Dougherty and Sharon Weatherill helped HEAT stop Nunthorpe from scoring. At the half the score was 20 - 35 to Nunthorpe.
In the 2nd half saw some fresh legs added to the game and HEAT started to push hard and started to close the gap between them and Nunthorpe. Some great rebounds from Pat Ferry led to some quick fast break moves by Becky Weatherill and Laura Howe to help HEAT make up some ground on the Bruins.
As hard as HEAT tried Nunthorpe continued to push and slowly started to increase their lead further.
During the last quarter, HEAT continued to battle through the game with some great drives from Jess Coates and link ups from the full team heat continued there hard efforts through out the game but unfortunately they were unable to catch back up to the bruins in the end it finished 51-69, a good performance for the ladies to start the season and hopefully should build on this through out the season.
