Heat welcomed Sunderland Uni for their 3rd straight home game of Division One Durham league while for Sunderland it was their 1st run out of the new season.

Heat started with a five of Errington, Turner, Thomas, Ord and Robinson, Sunderland went with Percival, Hogan, Spies, Steutl and Vickers.

Turner wins the tip for Heat and Robinson picks up the ball and takes it strong to the basket within seconds Robinson steals the ball and gets another lay-up, Heat are 4-0 before Steutl drops a long 3 to bring the Uni back within a point. Turner hits back quickly with a fast drive to give Heat advantage by three but Vickers and Steutl combine well and drop 7 seven points between them to pull Uni back into it.

A very fast paced quarter sees both teams scoring basket after basket but Heat find themselves 29-19 down after 10 minutes due to good outside shooting from Steutl.

In the 2nd Heat bring Colmer into the game and he has an immediate effect as Heat stop Uni from scoring and then go on a six point unanswered run lead by Colmer, when Uni do score it’s only one point but Robinson and Colmer are quick to reply with excellent fast breaks supported by Thomas down in the block.

Uni would only score once more this quarter while Heat through Colmer and Robinson would add 19 helping Heat win the quarter 31-3 and taking the overall lead 50-32.

Sunderland started the 3rd by scoring first with Steutl adding another four points to what will be a game total of 27 personal, but they were stopped in their tracks again by the Heat Defence and punished at the other end with good shooting from McKenzie and strong drives from Turner who was unstoppable. With Sunderland struggling to score for over 3 minutes Heat made them pay with Robinson running the game and finding McKenzie and Thomas for easy baskets supported strongly by Turner again and inside play from Ord.

It didn’t get any better for Sunderland as two of their players picked up their fourth personal foul in the last minute of the quarter and Heat leading 76-46.

Heat started the 4th where they left off, running the break this time through Reed who got the And1 but missed at the line as Hogan fouled out for Uni. This was to be the closest quarter of the game but Heat had already burnt any bridges of hope for Sunderland in the 2nd quarter. Steutl kept scoring for Uni by going strong inside and drawing the fouls causing Donnison to pick up two quick fouls leave the game with five personal. Heat kept the pressure on, Reed again making fast breaks and with strong play by Anderson on the offensive boards he went to the line and Spies fouled out for Sunderland who were now down to only four players.

Vickers and Percival for Sunderland begin working inside and driving strong to try and cut the score down but is was no good as more fast breaks from Musgrave for Heat made sure it was a good win.

Another excellent performance by Heat who worked well all game and managed to get the whole squad on the scoresheet.
