Hartlepool Heat continued their successful start to the season with a home win against a good Norton side. Heat in their Red started with Parker, Connor, Hitchings, Weatherill and Horsley while Norton in white went with Simpson, Fryer, winter, Tetradis and Naisbett.
Simpson was quick of the mark for Norton and scores first but Heat responds well with Horsley and Connor. Harrison checks in for Norton and is immediately fouled by Connor but can only make 1/2 from the line. Horsley takes the rebound and passes it out before getting back and scoring strong under the basket. Another drive from Horsley sees her fouled but she can’t convert the free - throws. Norton hit back through Simpson but the last three minutes is a great team performance from Heat and Boyd and Hitchings link up to give Heat the lead 16-9.
Having not scored for the last three minutes Norton come out strong in the 2nd and with Tetradis, Simpson and Naisbett playing well they bring themselves within 4-points until Hitchings scores for Heat and an excellent play from Lord spurs on the Home team and what was a 4-point lead quickly became 14 due to a 10-point unanswered spell with points from Hitchings, Fenny and Lord. Naisbett then goes on a run for Norton supported well by Tetradis but with Heat playing excellent team basketball Connor and Boyd make sure the difference stays at 14.Heat Lead 37-23.
Norton score first after the half time break but Horsley inspires Heat to a 9-4 run and with superb shooting from Weatherill and Robinson Heat pull away 51-27. Harrison and Tetradis both play strong inside to get to the line for Norton but missed free-throws costs them and with Parker fast breaking for Heat, Norton trail 55-31 going into the 4th.
Parker starts the 4th in fine form and is assisted well by Dougherty seeing Heat pull the game beyond Norton. Norton finish the game strong through Naisbett and Harrison and win the quarter 13-12 but Heat take the win 67-44.
An excellent team performance from Heat.
