Competition:
Snow Dogs Put Heat On Ice
Heat made their debut in the Teesside League against a young but experienced Huskies team. Heat arrived with a big crowd and a full squad and were soon making some noise on the court.
Kierl for Huskies opened the scoring followed quickly by Thompson with a 3 while Thomas and Turner got Heat in the game. Huskies were quick to reply this time through Colmer (who is registered with Huskies for Teesside League) and Kierl again. Heat then warmed up and with Robinson and Turner hitting the long 3’s and assisted by McKenzie’s breaks Heat took the 1st quarter 20-18.
In 2nd Thomas scores first for Heat giving them the edge at 22-18 but for the next four minutes Heat only score once to Huskies five and only once more in the whole 2nd quarter both from Errington. Huskies however go on the rampage and the Snow Dogs ravage Heat with Hanson running the game and the fast breaks and Thompson hitting his shot from outside. Huskies lead 45-26
Huskies start the 3rd how the ended the 2nd-scoring with Colmer now taking over supported by Kierl, Heat now had really cooled off and couldn’t score till Robinson got them moving with five straight points which helped Turner back into the game and Ord but it wasn’t enough as Colmer stepped up again for Huskies in the last minute helped out by Zaheer. Huskies lead 69-38
The 4th was all Heat, Huskies scored first through Colmer but then Heat responded with Turner and Robinson. The two teams traded scoring runs with each other Heat on a six-point run, then Huskies with a 10-point run then Heat on a 10 point run while Huskies managed only four points. Heat won the quarter 31-27 but they just couldn’t bridge the gap that Huskies had made in the 2nd were the game was won.
A tough opening game for Heat but a lesson well learned.
