Competition:
Details
After the Women winning their first home game and the Men playing straight after, Heat were looking for a double victory on their first double header Sunday.
It wasn’t to be!
Heat in Red started with McKenzie, Thomas, Errington, Robinson and Turner while Houghtonians in their traditional Green went with Burdis (cpt), Taylor, Kurtis, Whitehead and L. Jenner.
Heat wins the tip but Whitehead intercepts a pass and Houghtonians score first through Kurtis. Heat reply with Turner before L. Jenner edges Houghtonians in front.
Errington and Turner combine well for Heat but with Excellent shooting from Taylor Heat find themselves down three. (15-18) Through Turner, Heat start the 2nd strong and manage to bring the game back to 20-20.Heat then fail to score for 5 minutes while Houghtonians go on a 10 point run, only for Colmer and Donnison to pull it back to seven points.
Half- Time and Houghtonians lead 33-26.
The 3rd is another excellent quarter for Houghtonians as Heat struggle to score again this time for the first four minutes, when they do score they find themselves 40-28 down. At the end of the quarter Heat manage to get the score down to only 10 points through hard work and contributions from Ord and Turner.
Heat starts the 4th quickly and with McKenzie hitting his shots and strong drives from Ord Heat are able to get back into the game. Colmer is then fouled twice in succession and goes to line making 4/4. Heat lead 62-61.
Houghtonians call for a Time- Out and re-group, it clearly had the effect they wanted as they come out all guns blazing with Burdis, Taylor and Kurtis combining for 16 points giving them the lead while Heat could only add another four points.
Houghtonians take the game 75-66.
This was a good game of basketball and an excellent shooting display from Taylor who managed 27 points personal. Heat did well to comeback twice and make a game of it but lost to a more experienced Team who moved the ball very well.
