Details
After a run of 4 wins The Heat travelled to Houghton-le-Spring to take on the Durham League leaders Houghtonians.
Taylor opened the scoring for Houghtonians with a 3 before HEAT responded with a 3 of their own by Robinson. The home team then showed exactly why they are top of the league with some excellent ball movement and great shooting from Burdis who scored 13 of his game total 15-points in the 1st quarter. HEAT responded with great hustle from Ord and outside shooting from Robinson but found themselves 9-points down going into the 2nd.
HEAT started the 2nd with a much smaller team and struggled to contain Houghtonians big men with Burlinson cleaning up the boards and scoring easy baskets but HEAT ran the floor, making breaks through Colmer, Turner and Ray and with Robinson shooting well they managed to pull the deficit to 5-points at the break.
Houghtonians went big again at the start of the 3rd with Burlinson making two early baskets but great team defence from HEAT forced turnovers and with Colmer and Ord running the fast breaks and strong inside play from Errington, HEAT closed the gap to 1-point. Smailes managed a strong drive to the basket to give Houghtonians a 3-point cushion but and excellent And1 play from Colmer and a make on the free throw tied the game at 46-46 with less than a minute remaining. Unfortunately, HEAT couldn’t managed to convert anything else for the last minute but a quick basket and a long ‘hail mary’ from Houghton had them 5-points up going into the 4th.
Going into the 4th HEAT fancied their chances but nine unanswered points from Houghtonians including seven personal from Taylor had HEAT calling for a time-out. Errington gave HEAT some hope with an excellent basket and both teams had good spells throughout the remainder of the quarter but the slow start at the beginning cost HEAT and Houghtonians held on for a 74-60 win.
