Hartlepool Heat played Hornets at home in the first of four scheduled games between these two teams this season. Both teams play in Durham and Teesside Leagues this being the home fixture of Heat in Durham.
Heat with a five of Colmer, Ord, Thomas, Turner and Robinson started against Anderson, Harrington, Marshall, Norton and Burrell for Hornets.
Anderson wins the tip for Hornets and lays it up for Norton to make a quick two before Harrington nails a three giving Hornets the edge. Robinson is quick to bring Heat into the game and when he’s fouled he makes all three from the line followed up quickly by Turner who just breezed through the Zone for an easy basket. Excellent team basketball from Heat and strong plays from Ord and Colmer see Heat match Hornets until the last minute when 5-points unanswered from Norton gives Hornets the lead at the end of the 1st.
Both teams make changes in the 2nd and Hornets change to a Man Defence they also start stronger with James under the boards supported by Burrell while Heat look for answers from Colmer and Robinson. With Heat not consistent on the offense Hornets win this quarter 25-15 leaving Heat trailing 51-37 at half time./
Heat struggle to score consistently again in the 3rd while Hornets continue to go strong inside and shoot well from outside. Not even good combinations of Turner and Colmer and Robinson Ord can stop Heat falling to a 31-17 loss this quarter.
Turner and Robinson work well on offense in the last 10 for Heat but the gap is just too much from the 2nd and 3rd quarters. An excellent spell from Reed helped out by Colmer see Heat finish well but loose out 109 - 77.
