Details
Hartlepool HEAT U16 girls travelled to Ferryhill to take on a team from the Durham Wildcats camp, The Wildcats whose team consisted of two senior women and two national league players are one of the most structured clubs in the region.
HEAT rushed to a 6-0 lead through quick baskets from Holtom, Mee and Coates. A change was needed as Holtom picked up two personal fouls in succession however the Wildcats were un-able to capitalise on this as Barrett could only make one of her four free-throws. HEAT with a combination of baskets from Weatherill, Mee and Coates finished the quarter 12-3.
HEAT came out for the 2nd quarter all fired up and with excellent defence from the HEAT zone, Howe and Holtom were able to run the fast break leaving the Wildcats licking heir wounds as HEAT opened up a 12-point lead. Barrett managed to get to the line for Wildcats again but failed to convert six free-throws however Clare Fothergill making her HEAT debut converted a free-throw followed up by a fast break by Fisher giving HEAT a 38-6 lead at half-time.
Things just got better for HEAT in the 3rd quarter but worse for Wildcats as they failed to break the HEAT defence for the whole period. Outstanding performances from Bradley, A.Robson, K.Robson and Noddings on the defensive end of the floor made sure that seven different HEAT players got on the score sheet in the 3rd including themselves as well as fast breaks from Mee, Coates, and Howe and good shooting from Weatherill.
The 4th quarter was the closest but the game was already won. Elderkin did everything she could to try and rally her team but with no assistance from her fellow Cats, HEAT continued their dominance and through Armstrong and Fisher they controlled the game until the end running out winners 45-9.
Rebecca Weatherill was the games MVP.
