Nunthorpe Bruins vs Heat Women

47-59

Competition:

Heat Win On Debut

After re-arranged fixtures and games getting put back Heat finally made their debut in Durham League Ladies Division away to Nunthorpe Bruins although with the strong following of around 30 people you couldn’t be blamed for mistaking this as a home fixture.

Heat lined up in a starting five of Parker, Hitchings, Boyd, Fisher (Capt.) and Horsley against Nunthorpes - Ashwell, Bennett, Pate, Rogers and Wappatt.

Horsley was quick off the mark and took a strong lay -up before Wappattt responded with 2-points for Bruins. Heat then went on to score five points to Bruins two with Hitchings from the line and two strong lay-ups from Fisher.

Four minutes in and Heat lead 11-5 and through Parker and Horsley they add another nine points while Nunthorpe could only four points.

Start of the 2nd and Heat lead 23-15 but it’s Nunthorpe that look the better team scoring six unanswered points to close in on Heat until Hitchings drops a long range 3 and scores from a fast break this spurs on Fenny who herself adds six points but Nunthorpe are from out of it yet and with Wappatt and Pate Bruins bring themselves within nine points at half time.

3rd quarter and its all Heat, Fisher starts strong with a power move to the hoop followed by good shot selection outside the key and then in the 3rd minute Bruins go on a six point streak which Heat quickly put a stop to and go on a scoring run of their own with Hitchings at the line again, making 2/2 and supported by Horsley driving strong and excellent D from Boyd with interceptions and converting them into points.

Bruins would only score one more point this quarter.

The 4th would be Bruins strongest quarter but with the Heat winning the first three quarters 23-15, 11-10 and 16-7 the damage was done all Heat had to do was keep the ball and control the game. Heat started strong again through Fisher and Boyd, with Robinson converting 1/2 at the line, Bruins started a comeback in the 5th minute but it was short lived and had they hit their free-throws it would have been a lot closer.

A great start to the season for Heat who played excellent team basketball throughout and everyone contributing for the full game.
