A HOT Night for Awards!
On Saturday 11th July Hartlepool HEAT hosted their fourth presentation evening and welcomed over 130 people to the Cameron’s club. The guest list included players, parents, officials, partnership representatives and members from other clubs. The club got together to reward the people who had put something back in to the club and celebrate the success of teams and individuals. The first awards were for the U12 Boys category who had worked very hard all year and represented Hartlepool in the Teesside League CVL’s. The club entered two teams and finished 2nd and 3rd overall.
Macaulay Novak was chosen by the Teesside League as the Most Improved Player (MIP) of the CVL so he received that award. The U12’s 1st team received their runners up medals and the U12’s 2nd team received their 3rd place medals. The next awards were the Clubs own nominated awards for MIP and Most Valuable Player (MVP). Alex Byron was chosen for his improvement on his inside plays for MIP and Ryan McKenzie was awarded the MVP award due to his overall game throughout the year.
Hartlepool HEAT Coaches Luke Musgrave and Dave Carless where then asked on to stage to give out the next award that was for the Coaches Player Of The Year Award. Corey Ord from English Martyrs won the award, for his commitment to training and his general improvement over the season. The next group of people to be recognised was a group of Junior Members who have trained all year week in week out and basically shown commitment to the club. So for commitment to basketball Harvey Travis Matty Aktinson Matty Marshal Ben Dunn Aaron Flounders Corey Ord All received a medal
Manor HEAT were up next and for the Manor HEAT players of the year award, Paul Atkinson of Manor College Of Technology nominated both Lewis Fisher and Poppy Fisher for these awards. Paul said of the two ‘Manor has had such a successful season in basketball and Lewis and Poppy have both lead their respective teams by example and also helped bring on the less developed players’ Manor HEAT almost cleaned up in every age category and were very unlucky not to win the U14 Boys and U16 Boys County Cup Finals. They did however win, U12 League and their second team finished third. U12’s won their County Cup and their second team finished runners up. U14 Girls won both their league and County Cup U14 Boys won their League and were runners up in the County Cup Final U16 Girls won their League and County Cup U16 Boys won their League and were runners up in the County Cup Final
The next few awards were just to say thank-you to a few people who we feel do that little bit extra for the club. While we realise the club has many people who do ‘a little something’ when asked, these people help out on a weekly basis. Our first appreciation award was for Tony and Paul who gave up a lot of weekends to referee our U18 Women’s team, not only that but they both made themselves readily available for the majority of the clubs local fixtures also. They have both also committed themselves next season. Sadly Paul couldn’t make the evening but Tony was there to collect his award. Thank –you both
Our second appreciation award was for Luke Musgrave. Luke has pretty much helped out in everyway possible. He started as a Junior, got his coaching and table awards and has helped out ever since, mainly taking over the Headland Session and making it his own. The last of our appreciation awards went to Sharon Mee. We gave Sharon the Volunteer of the Year Award because when we first started, the club needed table officials. So we put a couple of parents on the course and basically dropped them in at the deep end. Sharon now, tables for the club, especially the U18 Women on a weekly basis and thoroughly enjoys it. We’d like to thank everyone who helps out at Hartlepool HEAT – everyone is valued and without your help and input we wouldn’t be the club we are today, thank-you again. The U18 Women was the next team to be celebrated. We asked Tony to hand out the awards and the MIP was Rebecca Weatherill. Besh was chosen due to her massive improvements over the season and is one of the clubs best defenders. Her offensive game has also improved and next year could be a break out season for her. The U18 Women’s MVP was Hannah Joyce- Hannah won the award for her ability to create her own shot and open looks for over people. She has had a very efficient offensive season and her overall game has improved.
All the Senior Awards were chosen by the players of each team. Our Men’s 2nd team was next up- and what a season they have had. The team was put together to provide more regular competition and to help ease our juniors and less experienced players in to the leagues. The team was all about development and everyone played a role even in training. The team went on to Win the Division 3 League and Division 3 League Cup with only one loss all season. Due to their on-going success we have made the decision to take automatic promotion up to Division 2 and re-enter a new team in to Division 3.
